Bastiaan, I really like the band that you posted and it is a very different style indeed. It almost seems a bit celtic and I'm Irish, so I pretty much always like things that sound like that.
But anyways, the only other artist that kind of seems similar to me is Enigma. I usually listen to them when I am studying, writing, or just relaxing and it really helps me. So, hopefully you'll think they are a bit similar, if not, then that's okay too. Smile

Here is a link to one of Enigma's videos.

Brittany: I know a bit about enigma...I havent listened to a lot of their songs yet, but I will try to do so somewhat soon. So far it seems much slower than Blackmore's Night. But I'll check out more of their stuff when I have the time

I usually also like stuff thats celtic irish, but unfortunately often there are a few good songs and the rest are...far less nice. A dutch band (I think) called Omnia sometimes sound nice.

For relaxing music Ive also found David Arkenstone, btw. Maybe youd like that too. And theres always Enya Razz

I also quite like Dropkick Murphy's which are a celtic folk/punk/rock ish band Razz Not for studying though, lol

Yes, I did notice last night that Enigma was a little slower than the band that you mentioned, Blackmore's Night. But let me know what you think of Enigma once you listen to more of their things. (:

I did take the time to listen to David Arkenstone tonight and I really like his stuff. It is very relaxing and it helped me with some writing that I did tonight, so that's always good to find something to help with that. But I do like Enya too, I have a few songs on my iPod.

Yeah, Dropkick Murphey's isn't very helpful with studying lol. But I do like them as well and they are similiar to Flogging Molly, which I love. Very Happy

Yeh, I know flogging molly too. Personally I like dropkicks better, probably because I know them better.

I havent listened to Arkenstone that much at all, but I was looking for something else to put on while writing and found that I had some of his stuff, so I put it on and it really helps for me too.

What kind of writing does his music help you with, btw? Cos theres the school writing, essay, homework writing stuff....and theres the personal choice, free time, short stories, lyrics, bookwriting for fun. For the 2nd, its great, for the first its not. For me at least.

For some reason two of the best bands for studying are: 1. Amber Pacific (punk-ish). Ive studied for all my high school final exams listening to their album, and it worked, strangely
And 2. Toto. For some reason when Im studying and lstening to them it works. Not with writing though, but reading a book, going through my notes, their music helps Neutral

Well, while I was listening to Arkenstone the other night I was working on rough draft of a story relating to my school. But last night I attempted to write a poem for the first time in a long time and it really helped, so I will probably get back into that now.

I do like Amber Pacific, but I have never listened to them while doing school studies... But it is always worth a try and maybe it will help in at least on subject. Razz aha.

I was kinda surprised myself when I could learn with Amber Pacific. I was just fed up with silence and that was the only thing I had close by, so I put it on and it helped Razz

Im gonna listen to Arkenstone and Enigma a bit more (sorry, havent found the time to listen to Enigma much yet). Hopefully I'll find some time today to continue with my book that I'm (attempting) to write. My first book, so I dont know that much what Im doing. Well...right not Im in the plot writing fase with the character fase finished (although Ill probably edit it a bit later), but I havent had much time lately. Havent even been able to work on it in about a week (lots of school stuff + feeling ill = no book progress Sad ). But hopefully I'll be able to get something done tonight...Btw, if you have any tips on writing a fantasy novel, lemme know Razz

Anyway, back to new artists/bands.....I got nothing I can think of now, lol

Yeh, sure. They can have. You can have the LOTR type where several races fight each other, but mine will only have humans and just a small...resistence opposing the 'evil' ruler. More like the Sword of Truth books. Im sure I will have some fights where they kill a few dozen men of the bad guy though. Spells...definately, sorta, magical abilities really. But regular sword/bow/dagger will be important, maybe more important. I still have to think of curses...so far the magical abilities are also a curse at times

I have got the basic world fairly figured out and the characters as well, so Im working on the plot now, which I will then deepen before actually starting to write. I already know the start and end and some basic stuff, but I gotta make it all into a story by letting the characters tell it, which is hard, since I keep having headaches, and with headaches I cant go to my daydreaming place to think of the story, cos I seem to be focusing on my headache then too, making it seem much worse than it is Sad Today I was able to only do some shallow plot stuff....aww well, itll come, perhaps tomorrow.

The guy who did the theme song to Civilization 4 (Baba Yetu, youtube here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tmut6FBx4xk) recently (well, last year I guess) released an album with a dozen songs somewhat similar, in a whole lotta languages I can't understand. But if you like that theme song, you'll like the album. Calling All Dawns by Christopher Tin.

The only downside so far (well, besides the fact I don't know japanese or persian or swahili) is that he has included a song in French. And I simply hate french. I spent 4 years in high school studying it and I still suck at it. That language seems to be determined to not make sentences or even word-chains, but they make letter-chains making it impossible to know where a word begins and ends. Even fast spoken spanish is easier to understand even though I have pretty much no knowledge of spanish

Ok, so far my bashing of that language, the album is very good if you like that kind of music. So if you like Baba Yetu, check out the album Wink

Someone who was 7th on American Idol season 2: Kimberly Caldwell. My fav of that season. She is about to release her first album in April, so she is new I guess. I like her voice very much, it's very raw. You can find a number of her AI performances on youtube as well as her single here: www.kimberlycaldwell.com

I like her very much, the only music that ever gave me goosebumps were Joss Stone (now and then in her second album and her last), Kelly Clarkson (aallll the time), soundtracks (mainly Doctor Who). And now also Kim Caldwell (as much as Kelly, although her voice may not be as good). So I'm excited Razz I don't know what her album is gonna sound like, we'll have to wait and see. I'm thinking it is gonna be songs that could be on one of Kelly's albums, most likely the third (which had lowest sales but I liked it best), but with a very different voice.

So check it out, I'd say. Who knows, maybe you'd like it Razz

Bout a week ago, I went to the first concert of a band of two of my friends, called Involta. They're just starting out, but they sound really good, especially keeping in mind they formed 6 months ago or so. You can find their concert on youtube (recorded by someone with a camera with very crappy sound). Also check out involta.tk. What I like is that unlike many starting rock bands, their aim is not to produce as much noise as possible while killing the melody, but the opposite.

I think I've mentioned her before, but I really like Kimberly Caldwell. You can get "Say Love" here: http://www.kimberlycaldwell.com/freedownload.html.

Her first single "Mess of You" is out now and you can check out the music video here: http://new.music.yahoo.com/videos/--218644792

I also wanna make you aware of someone called Jennifer Grassman. All kinds of music, you can check out snippets of the album at www.JenniferGrassman.com

Yeh, that's why I like Kim. She was on AI too, but there she didn't truly 'commit' to the songs and she does now, puts everything she's got in the songs. I like Say Love better than Mess of You, though. Her voice may not be perfect in the general sense, but if she can bring tears to my eyes I don't care Razz And she does that with studio versions, not just live versions. So yeh...I like her Razz

Jennifer Grassman has a somewhat unique voice too, not as unique as Kim's, but Jennifer's songs are very unique. And she's a nice person too, for as far as Twitter allows you to get to know someone. Snake is probably my favourite
