Admin Introduction

Post  Angelique on Sun Aug 02, 2009 4:13 pm

I thought I'd start off this forum by introducing myself a little better than what my profile does, so I don't seem like a complete stranger.

I thought I'd start off by telling you a bit about myself. I'm a 25 year old female and was born and raised in South Africa. I've been a fan of MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) for a while now, but only got the opportunity to start training in it about a month ago.

Why MMA and fighting? I'll tell you. I grew up with my dad, so I was always a real tomboy. Till today, I prefer hanging out with a group of guys, as I'm generally more comfortable (being myself) in their company. Sure, I'd occasionally play with dolls, but my favorite activities were building (tree houses, ramps, etc), biking, dreaming up adventures, climbing and breaking anything and everything I could find, and roughing it up with my male friends. You could say that I've always been a physical person. From a young age, I became familiar with the legend that is Bruce Lee. The first time I watched one of his films, something rose up on the inside of me, and I desired to be involved in Martial Arts. It seemed like the perfect sport for me. Obviously, being a girl, my dad refused to let me participate in it. Over the years, and after countless disappointments with not being allowed to start, my dream became dormant. Pushed to the back of my mind, I continued the journey of my life.

Then, about a year ago, things changed. I watched an MMA fight featuring Gina Carano, and from that moment on, I became obsessed with the sport which combines so many different styles and forms of Martial Arts. I officially started training in January, and I've never felt more alive, or at home in this world. Gina Carano has been a legend in my life, and I don't care what people may say about her, she's my "hero", having awakened the desire in my heart.

I know that was a bit lengthy, but that's my story. I hope to hear from other members.

I really didnt. But maybe you said some of that in the 6 weeks I had been away. Especially when I came back from Texel I felt a lot of (personal) things had been said that I missed out on but I was too lazy to read everything, lol.

And thank you for having me here Wink

Thanks Dante, you're a star. Very Happy

Yeah, the other forum is still my first, met most of you guys there. It's just become very cluttered around there lately, with so many double posts/threads, it's just all over the place. I like structure, LOL. I still go there every once in a while, 'cause I can't bear to let Jen down (she did such a great job with her site). At least if this forum starts to go haywire, I can sort it out and keep it in line, it's a bit difficult to do that with someone's else's.

I agree with everyone else. You are doing a great job. It takes a lot of work to run a message board.

Thanks all. Keep in mind though that a board is only as good as it's members, so it's because of you guys too. Wink

Yeah that's exactly why i took sometime off from the website seeing all those posts and new topics in random places, it started giving me a headache.

Thanks Aiki, glad you could join us. Smile

I was doing MMA, but switched over to Muay Thai. It's so much easier at the moment, 'cause I get to learn one style properly and in depth. I'll go back to MMA in a little while though. Would like to do both. Very Happy
