I've got a few more bands to add to my collection:

Skillet, Trapt, and Burn Season (a relatively new group). A lot of their music has a relatively similar sound to Breaking Benjamin, but obviously none of them compares to my favorite. Very Happy

Kelly Clarkson and Joss Stone (both revisited if you know what I mean)

Kelly cos I still think she has the best voice in the world. Her songs are generally nice, but they don't really show off her voice much. But then again it's not that much about showing off your voice as it is about making money, which she has managed to do with songs that still leave room for and give credit to her outtathisworldly voice

And Joss...Always been a fan of her, since she brought out You Had Me (which is actually one of my less favourite songs) and Right to Be Wrong. Then her voice went crappy (on Introducing), which was why I liked her since her songs were never more than just good. So this new album (Colour me Free) that came out today in the US determined how actively Id follow her career. And though her vocals are not awesome on all of em, they are still amazing on most of em. But the real nice thing is that pretty much every song (cept for the last one which reminds me of Kelly too much), most songs are awesome themselves. Exactly what I was hoping for before I heard her single Free Me. After which I was hoping for that funky sound. Instead its got a very soulful sound, which is better than I was hoping for at that moment. I havent had the chance to listen to the album entirely yet, Ive just listened to most songs completely, and Ive heard half of the others. But man, are the songs awesome! For me it's like all the best bits of all the best songs with that sound and put together on one album thats better than those songs. So Im rather excited. Unfortunately, I havent been able to get my hands on a...legal version yet, since apparently Ill have to wait til the 30th for it to come out here, or perhaps nov 2nd. Or perhaps it would come out on oct 23rd, it isnt that clear. Ill be keeping an eye out for it, thats for sure. Now I hope for once she will schedule her concert here on a day that I can actually make it there. Ive only seen her once, like 4 years ago. Shes been here every year since, but Ive never been able to go Sad

Ah, I forgot the summary. I apologize for that. Here it is anyway:

Kelly Clarkson: best voice in the world...by far, but songs generally no more than nice and not showing off her voice much. Still a fan because of that voice

Joss Stone: Me long time fan (like 5 years now or so), she released new album yesterday which for a change has amazing songs plus her vocals are good/great again. So me big fan again. Very happy about amazing songs, exceeded my hopes

Better?

Nice one Bas, LOL. Once again, our resident essay writer. Very Happy

I also like Kelly Clarkson, especially her new album (well not too new). Always liked her voice.

Yeh, her voice is awesome. What impressed me as well is that she seems to be able to sing all kinds of songs just as well (looking at American Idol). Her first album though didn't really seem like her, which makes sense since it's the album she 'won' with AI. Then her second album was better, it had some ballads and some pop/rocky songs. Then she did My December which I actually ...'admire'..because it's got all kinds of songs on it. Pop, rocky, sould/jazz and some...weird ones. But still nice. And yeh, her last All I Ever Wanted is pretty nice. I like the songs that sound like One Republic, written by Ryan Tedder (who sold the same song to both her and Beyonce I believe). Her voice still most of the time takes second place to the song, with which I don't mean because the songs are so awesome, but just due to the nature of the songs. I have mixed feelings about that since her voice is like...impossibly good. Sorry, impropbably good Razz

As for Joss' album...on this one I think neither the instruments nor her voice take first place. There's room for awesome vocals, for the focus on that, but just as well there is room for an amazing sax solo. Combining that with songs that are awesome makes for a great album. Im kinda curious as to where they will shelve this one. I hate genre tags, for this reason. I'm thinking they will put this album under pop...or perhaps R&B. Then maybe sometime later they will move it to Jazz/soul

Yes...essay writing. Here yes, book...somewhat yes. Thesis and study essay writing....that seems to be less commonly easy for me, lol
Btw, if you want an actual really long review of Joss' album, you can go here Razz. Now keep in mind I have no experience whatsoever reviewing albums, and I am already a fan; I just say what I like.

Joss Stone has finally did something for me...she's coming to Groningen! I've only been able to see her once before, in the summer of '05. She has been to Holland every year I think, but always during a week day and in Amsterdam, so I was never able to go. Now she's giving 4 concerts (incl one showcase and a tv appearance) and 3 of em are again at the other end of the country. But like I said, she's also coming to the Oosterpoort in Groningen March 9th. So I'm rather excited Razz. Tickets go on sale this saturday, I wonder how quickly it'll be sold out...Here's hoping I will be able to get a ticket, which shouldn't be a problem, even though I'll be at my parents. So I'll finally get to see my fav artist in a small-ish venue (no idea how big the biggest hall there is, I know the other hall can seat like 300ppl or so). Last time I saw her was at North Sea Jazz in a place with like 10.000 others

Only one of my favorite bands (Evanescence) have ever come to South Africa to perform. Artists/bands don't seem to come here much. Sad

I remember seeing very recently a south african tourdate for an artist I quite like. I jsut can't remember who it was, sorry

A lot of artists dont come to Holland often either. The big ones maybe once every few years. And they always perform at a stadium then, and I dont like that. Thankfully some artists I like are a little less famous, so they perform at smaller venues. I saw Xavier Rudd here in Groningen, but still most will the perform in Amsterdam, which is too far away for me to go for one concert Sad

yup

Anyone know of any artists that sound like Explosions in the Sky, the band that did the soundtrack to the movie Friday Night Lights and which have a similar sound to the theme song to the series?
